The Deadnotes - Makeup - Review

Germany based indie-punk trio, The Deadnotes released their new single ‘Makeup’ today challenging harmful beauty standards.

Accompanied by a video, ‘Makeup’ is designed to entice thought regarding modern ideology of beauty. Currently gaining territory on the indie-punk scene, The Deadnotes flex their talents in their latest single delivering a passionate and heart-wrenching display of concord.

Through the use of melodic instrumentals and effeminate vocals, The Deadnotes have created a memorable track lyrically promoting self love. Commenting on the release, they say “it really kills us to see so many people struggle with themselves, unable to find comfort simply with the way they are or how they act, and instead harming themselves by trying to be different.”

The band convey their message flawlessly in the new video, showing images that portray a sense of body dysmorphia.

Worthy of being described as an anthem, The Deadnotes combine the use infectious melodies and gripping lyrics in an attempt to dismantle the hypothetical wall stopping us from truly liking ourselves.

The application of harmonized vocals emphasises the bands powerful narrative, accentuating the emotion and passion that The Deadnotes placed in the writing for this track.

“The song is ostensibly a socially critical song tracking beauty ideals and the way people judge each other,” says the band. The Deadnotes formed at the young age of 14, self-releasing their debut EP and relentlessly touring across Europe and having shared the stage with Boston Manor, Don Broco, The Front Bottoms and many more.

For their new single, the band worked alongside producer Bob Cooper, mixed the track with Beau Burchell and mastered by Mike Kalajian, all who have worked with some of the biggest rising and established bands that has come to be.

They’ve also recently founded their own record label, 22Lives Records, in which ‘Makeup’ has been released via.

The Deadnotes will be heading out on a UK tour, kicking off on February 20th in London’s The Monarch, ending on the 24th in Brighton’s The Hope & Ruin. -Jess Morgan, Riff Media.
