Horizon - Confessions - EP Review

When somebody spends a year and a half producing an EP you can be sure that it will be something special.

Bracknell's very own Matt Merry has been one of our long time friends from when Riff Media first started out and it is amazing to see how he has progressed these past years.

Confessions is exactly what it says on the tin, a heartfelt open letter to it's listeners about love, life and all things in between that we can all relate to. Matt has spoken to us about the stories behind the singles.

Call My Own is a love letter to Weymouth, where Matt spent his childhood. It's a soothing and harmonious way of reminding us all of where we came from and that special place we can all call home. A place we call our own and can always go back to.

Walking Away is about troubled times in a relationship, it's about being too deep in to let the small things eat you away, it's about fighting through your issues. Accompanied by a beautiful piece of piano work it continues to demonstrate Matt's distinctive sound and talent.

Choices was written in support of a close friend going through struggles. It's a song about not being able to describe what you're going through, about feeling alone and being out of options.

Save The Day is all about growing up, it was written on reflection of Matt's youth, growing up with brother Russ (of Streetfight Silence fame) pretending to be superhero's. It's a reflection of growing up with siblings and how easy life was in our youth. It's also the more up-lifting track on the album showing a great amount of diversity within the EP.

Him & Her is another relationship song, this time more focused on the broken down ones, the ones that are long gone with no answers as to what went wrong and where it all fell apart.

Confessions the title track, the one that normally holds the most feeling. Confessions is a summary of what the EP stands for, it's about standing up and fighting for what you believe in, it's about the important things in life, the things worth holding on to.

What Made Us Blind Matt's favourite track from the EP, What Made Us Blind is all about going above and beyond for someone you love, it's about making amends whilst you still have the chance to do so.

Confessions is a beautifully written EP with so much meaning behind it. It is relatable, catchy and lyrically alluring.

Another fantastic collection of music from Mr Merry, who also had brother Russ on hand to make sure everything was as perfect as it could be.
