On The Ropes - Home EP Launch Show
January 16th - York Basement
York is rich in history, culture and scenic views and even richer in musical talent. We were present at the EP launch for one of York's finest emerging talent's 'On The Ropes' as they showcased their debut EP 'Home'.
The line-up was rammed with talent with the likes of Chris Laycock, an acoustic musician from York, Riff favourites Pray for Hayden, a brilliant and highly energetic pop-punk four piece from Leeds and another favourite of ours in the shape of Selby pop-punkers Lyon Estates.
There were a few techincal hiccups but nothing that disrupted the flow of a perfect, sold out show.
Chris Laycock opened the evening perfectly and even paid tribute to On The Ropes frontman and long standing Riff hero Jonny Gill by playing a medley of his songs.
Pray for Hayden stepped up the tempo by providing us with some great tracks to jump around to which included the amazing cover of Alphabeat's Fascination and a couple of tracks from their eagerly anticipated new album which sounded absolutely incredible. The guys showed exactly what they were made of and warmed the crowd perfectly.
Lyon Estates were up next and again performed brilliantly despite being a member down with bassist Rich away on holiday. The energy and commitment was not missing and they played to the crowd perfectly.
After such an amazing set of opening performances On The Ropes had a lot to prove when taking to the stage and they duly delivered. The energy passed from stage to crowd pretty much immediately and before we knew it people were diving over the barrier and on to the stage to be closer to the band. On The Ropes provided a fantastic and intimate performance and should be proud of the release and the evening as a whole.
A fantastic night, a perfect line-up.
